51st Edition of Animafest Zagreb: the Best of World Animated Film Production
Animafest Zagreb will again this year show the best of the world animated film production but also interesting educational content.
The 51st World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb, which sprung from the famous Zagreb School of Animation, will take place from 5 to 10 June at the Student Centre Cinema, the Tuškanac Cinema, the Tuškanac Summer Stage, as well as other locations in the city.
More than 1800 films from over 100 countries in the world were submitted for Animafest, which marked 50 years since its foundation last year.
More than 300 films will be screened during the festival, the best in the world production. In addition to prestigious competitions, which include feature films and VR projects, visitors will get a chance to watch films for children and youth, a block of films dedicated to science fiction in animation as well as programmes entitled the Masters and World Panorama. The tenth filmmakers gathering Animafest Scanner X and numerous lectures, workshops and other educational content awaits film experts.
The winning film will be a candidate for the Oscars.
Winners of some of the awards to be presented at the festival are already known. William Kentridge from South Africa is the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Kentridge is a leading name on the contemporary global art scene with a universal oeuvre, including accomplishments in the field of auteur animation, partly carried out in the peculiar charcoal on paper technique, which gave a special touch to his ‘drawings in motion’.
