Museum of Contemporary Art: Retrospective Exhibition of Sanja Iveković: Works of Heart (1970 - 2023)
Sanja Iveković' retrospective exhibition is open in her native Zagreb. In comparison to the edition held in Vienna, new elements of her artistic creation and activism have been added.
The retrospective exhibition of Sanja Iveković entitled Works of Heart (1970 - 2023) will be open from 15 June to 1 November this year. It is the first comprehensive museum retrospective of one of the most important Croatian artists in her native city. The exhibition is a result of the collaboration of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb with Kusthalle Vienna, where it premiered last year.
Although the two exhibitions share the same title, the Zagreb exhibition is larger and adapted to the specific space of the Zagreb museum. In comparison with the Vienna edition, it encompasses new productions as well as pieces from the Museum of Contemporary Art collection, a new part conceived as an archive and an overview of the author’s activism. All of these parts are interconnected and form a whole united by the same narrative. The exhibition is entitled after one of the art pieces by Sanja Iveković and it is an expression of a multi-layered approach and her strong dedication to deconstructing stereotypical representation of woman and her relationship with the world.
Sanja Iveković was born in Zagreb in 1949. She held exhibitions in numerous galleries and museums in the world and her pieces are included in collections of many museums such as MoMA in New York, Musée National d'art Modern Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Contemporary Art Museum in Kumamoto, Generali Foundation in Vienna, Tate Modern in London and others.
