Meetings Star Award: Zagreb, the Best Congress Destination

Zagreb won the title of the best congress destination for events gathering up to 2000 participants followed by flattering ratings and convincing arguments.

At this year’s Conventa trade show in Ljubljana, Zagreb won the Meetings Star Award for events gathering up to 2000 participants in the category of big cities. The ratings are based on strictly defined criteria of the Meeting Experience Index, which consist of 75 parameters, among which the quality of infrastructure, hotels and congress halls, accessibility and general impression. The capital of Croatia won the award among 19 countries in the New Europe region which consists of central and southeastern Europe.

“This award is an important recognition for Zagreb as MICE destination and a proof of dedicated work and investments in the tourism and MICE infrastructure. Continuous development, excellent connectivity, a diverse offer of hotels and venues and brilliant service make Zagreb an increasingly attractive city to host congresses and business meetings”, said Martina Bienenfeld, the Zagreb Tourism Board Director. She also announced further efforts to make Zagreb an even more desirable MICE destination.

According to the reviews of the expert jury, Zagreb has won an excellent overall score and was described as a pleasant, compact and easily accessible destination, which is easily reached by participants of business gatherings. Strategic investments contributed to the this, such as the new terminal of the airport, a modernisation of the Croatian air carrier Croatia Airlines’ fleet and the best air connections in the region. Another advantage of Zagreb, as it can be read in the statement of the jury, is a rich offer of high-quality hotels with various meeting facilities.
