Zagreb set to host a sporting spectacle: World Handball Championship 2025

Croatia, along with Norway and Denmark, will host the 29th IHF Men’s Handball World Championship, and Zagreb will play a key role as the host to numerous exciting matches and events

January 2025 brings a real handball treat, and Zagreb is ready to become the center of the handball world! Croatia is among the three host countries of the 29th IHF Men’s Handball World Championship, which will bring together the world's best national teams in the fight for the prestigious title. Zagreb will host 63 percent of the matches and the rest of them will be played in Norway and Denmark. With the matches running from 14 January to 2 February 2025, this championship promises unforgettable moments and a top-notch sporting spectacle.

Zagreb: the heart of the World Championship

Zagreb, Varaždin and Poreč are the three Croatian host cities, with a rich tradition and history in organizing handball competitions, as well as accompanying content. Zagreb will play a key role in the organization and running of the championship by hosting the matches of groups A and C at the Arena Zagreb where the Croatian national team will face Argentina, Bahrain and Egypt. Slovenia, Iceland, Cuba and Cape Verde will also start the competition in Zagreb. In addition, Zagreb will also host matches in the main phase of the competition, the quarter-finals and one of the semi-finals, giving fans the opportunity to witness the decisive moments of the championship.

The Croatian national handball team, led by players such as Domagoj DuvnjakLuka Cindrić and Ivan Martinović, enters the competition with high ambitions. With support from the stands of the Arena Zagreb, their goal is to repeat the successes of previous years and bring another handball medal to Croatia.
