Winter in Zagreb: how does the city live during the coldest time of the year?
There is something magical about the winter months. A special charm spread by the cool air on the streets of Zagreb, bringing peace and tranquility to the hearts of its residents and visitors, creating a charming atmosphere that warms hearts in the cold winter months.
There is something thrilling about the anticipation of snow. Everyone is watching the weather forecast with hope and opening the curtains in the morning, expecting the true winter whiteness.
The colors of nature disappear from the streets as the trees and flowers are enveloped in winter gray. The days become shorter and give way to winter evenings. But Zagreb makes up for this with lots of light in the streets and shop windows, on house windows and in parks, making it clear to everyone that it loves winter and welcomes the chilly time of the year as openly as all other seasons.

Winters are very unpredictable here: one second we have spring temperatures and rains, then suddenly there is deep snow carried by the wind covering the sleeping city. And it is precisely the latter that many residents look forward to, their warm boots and thick gloves patiently waiting to be used during a new “creaky” walk, sledding on Cmrok or enjoying the snow on Sljeme.
The citizens of Zagreb stay at home and on the streets in equal measure. Not even the winter or bad weather prevents residents from taking a leisurely walk or bike ride, enjoying their free time with a view of the winter version of the city, and taking advantage of all the activities that this time of year offers.
