2nd Edition of Open House Festival in Zagreb: Learn About Architectural Gems of the City

For three days in October, the most attractive architectural works in Zagreb will open doors to visitors during the second edition of the Open House Festival Zagreb.

A tour of the city with an expert guide is certainly the best way to get to know and treasure its architecture properly, but also to raise awareness about planning, sustainable development and similar topics. Owing to the Festival Open House Zagreb, whose second edition will take place from 18 to 20 October, a tour like this is possible in Zagreb, accompanied by multidisciplinary group of guides, architects, art historians, conservators, designers, curators and anthropologists.

The very first edition of the project sparked a lot of interest among visitors, which led to the number of public and private buildings included in it to rise from 35 to 40 this year. These buildings, encompassing cultural and health institutions, religious buildings, schools, kindergartens, parks, residential buildings, airports, banks, flats and art studios, will be given a topic this year. The first topic is revitalisation of architectural heritage, meant to familiarise citizens and visitors of Zagreb with a particular process of renovating heritage building after the earthquake as well as with renovation not related to the earthquake. The second topic is the legacy of Viktor Kovačić, the father of modern Croatian architecture to mark the occasion of 150 years since his birth and a hundred years since his death. The third topic of this year’s edition of the Open House Festival Zagreb is entitled Urbanistic units and it presents some parts of the city which attract tourists’ and citizens’ attention.

In addition to touring famous buildings, visitors will get a chance to enter a conversation with eminent architects from Zagreb who will talk about their work and about architectural considerations of Zagreb.
