Animafest Zagreb, which this year is about to celebrate half a century since its foundation, brings the best of world animated film production and makes Zagreb into one of the most prominent capitals of world animation.

The World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb, lunched thanks to the reputation of the filmmakers from the Zagreb School of Animation, will take place from 6 to 11 June and welcome more than 300 filmmakers from all over the world. Fans of short and feature animated films will this year have a chance to see more than 350 titles as a part of competition, theme and retrospective programme. In addition, many lectures, expert symposiums, exhibitions, workshops and other educative activities about the most recent trends in the world of animated film will take place at the festival.

Animafest is one of the most prominent festivals and the second oldest festival of animation in the world. It is one of prestigious festivals whose winners are nominated for an Oscar in the category of the best animated short film. Excellent programmes, some of which will be screened free of charge outdoors, add to the cultural and tourist offer of the city and allow the audience to get to know outstanding titles of world production.

The event this year will be marked by an impressive jubilee; Animafest is celebrating 50 years since its foundation, which will be accompanied by special activities. There is a retrospective exhibition in the Museum of Contemporary Art as of 12 May which will be open for a month and close on the day when Animafest finishes this year.

Also, four programmes which received Audience Award during the history of the festival will be shown to mark the jubilee. One of them will be screened on the Tuškanac Summer Stage and the admission will be free.

The festival will take place in the very centre of the city, at the Student Centre, the Tuškanac Cinema and the Tuškanac Summer Stage, so life in Zagreb during the second week in June will be marked by animated films from around the world.
