Excursion trains throughout Croatia

The end of March marks the beginning of the new tourist season for Croatian Railways. They have again organized excursions by trains to many destinations in the continental part of the country. Last year they organized a total of 350 such outings during which about 50,000 passengers visited roughly 250 destinations. The excursion trains are very popular among Zagreb's citizens and every year they attract a greater number of travelers. Besides getting to know different parts of Croatia, the passengers benefit from nature walks and many other kinds of recreational and fun activities which are organized for them when they reach their destination. Given the fact that these excursion tours promote the traditions and gastronomic customs of individual regions, the tourist boards in continental Croatia have shown great interest in working with Croatia Railways.

In addition to the very popular excursion trains, such as the Karlek, which will bring you to Ogulin – the city of fairy tales or the Čigoč express which will take you to the village of storks, there are those that will take you even further afield, to the harvest celebrations in Slavonia or to visit the Kopački Rit Nature Park. Travelers have also shown great interest in recreational excursion tours. To celebrate Earth Day on April 18th, you can start off with “Cycling through Moslavina”, and in May you can be taken to Lonjsko Polje or visit the first Croatian iris garden in Donja Stubica...

In March, children will be able to ride on the Easter Bunny-Express, which will operate between Zagreb and Dugo Selo. There will be organized programs for the youngest ones and they will even receive gifts. Croatian Railways organizes educational programs for pre-school and primary school pupils where they learn about rail transportation, how to behave on trains, security while travelling, train connections and environmental protection.
