Festival of Lights Zagreb: Welcoming Spring and Important Anniversaries
This year's edition of the Festival of Lights Zagreb celebrates spring, brings the interplay of colours in our everyday life but also marks important anniversaries from the life of people, city and country.
The new edition of the Festival of Lights Zagreb will take place from 19 to 23 March and bring inventive light installations, animation and projections as well as timeless messages to the streets, squares and parks of Zagreb. This year the events will again take place in the romantic Upper Town, after a break due to its renovation. The symbol of this year’s festival is hellebore, a beautiful protected flower which brings to mind calmness, peace and rebirth and it is a true harbinger of spring
During the five days of the festival, more than twenty locations with 25 installations will be marked by light, colours, and spring. In addition to Croatian artists, the reputation of the festival is also confirmed by participation of renowned light and light messages artists from several countries, among others the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Great Britain.
This year’s festival celebrates important anniversaries. The Zagreb Art Pavillion, located in King Tomislav Square, will be a “canvass” where an important historical anniversary will be marked with a topic projection, that is, the 1100th anniversary of the Kingdom of Croatia. Another anniversary, a centenary is celebrated by a famous hotel in Zagreb, the Esplanade Hotel, built to accommodate passengers of the legendary Orient Express, which will also be marked by a special light installation.
This year once again the Festival of Lights Zagreb continues its collaboration with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Adria by raising awareness about environmental protection as well as our responsibility towards environment and future generations. It will confirm its environmental awareness by participating in Earth Hour on 22 March.
