The Beauty of Czech and Slovakian Glass
In cooperation with the embassy of the Czech Republic in Zagreb and the Moravian Gallery of Brno, until June 28th, the Museum of Arts and Crafts will feature the exhibition “Czech and Slovakian Glass in Exile”.
The exhibition “Czech and Slovakian Glass in Exile” will be open until June 28th at the Museum of Arts and Crafts. The exhibition was opened in recognition of the Czech presidency of the European Union, and realized in cooperation with the embassy of the Czech Republic in Zagreb and the Moravian Gallery of Brno.
The exhibition features a total of 56 unique, glass objects, made by artists educated in the former Czechoslovakia who greatly contributed to the popularity of Czech and Slovakian glass abroad; hence the word exile in the title. Among the artists presenting their works at the exhibition, there are 17 Czechs and Slovaks, as well as two foreigners; Croatian artist Jeronim Tišljar and Mary Thwaites from Great Britain, both graduates of the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague.
The shapes and colors of the exhibited works make this exhibition interesting not only to artists and glass aficionados, but to wider audiences, regardless of their nationality. The exhibition features works created using various techniques; glass casting, glass blowing, cold working, etc. Apart from items of decorative and applied art, such as vases and plates, this exhibition also features mosaics as well as glass sculptures.
