The first cinema for documentary films in the region
As of recently, local documentary film enthusiasts have had a unique opportunity to stay on top of contemporary global documentary film production. Special summer programs at Dokukino Croatia can also be enjoyed by Zagreb’s foreign visitors as all the films are subtitled in English.
“Dokukino Croatia”, a new, unique cinema for documentary films, has recently opened in the former cinema Croatia. It is the first specialized cinema for documentaries, not only in Croatia but the entire region. The owner of the cinema, Croatia Film, has decided to keep the hall small, with only 40 seats, and retain its intimate atmosphere and charm. At the same time, the state-of-the-art equipment will offer film lovers a unique opportunity to enjoy the showing of the most recent global productions of documentaries which are not as widely accessible to audiences as the mainstream movies. However, their popularity in Croatia is on the rise, so there will be two documentary projections a day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with special programs during the summer months for foreign tourists with films subtitled in English.
Croatia film has the ambition to turn Dokukino Croatia into a meeting-point for all documentary film aficionados from Croatia as well as the entire region, and they will also attempt to register it with the Europa Cinemas Association. Membership in this association would create opportunities for the further expansion of activities within the framework of this ambitious project.
