22nd Zagreb Film Festival: Attractive Programme and Interesting Encounters

In early-November, Zagreb will become a meeting point of many movie authors and movie fans, who have been gathering for more than two decades around the Zagreb Film Festival.

This year, the Zagreb Film Festival will take place from 4 to 10 November and in its 22nd edition present the most interesting, contemporary world movie production. It will connect those who make films with those who love them.

This year’s festival will open with the screening of the debutant feature film Celebration by Bruno Anković, which is competing for the best feature film. Its world premiere took place in Karlovy Vary, and it won six awards at the Pula Film Festival, including the Grand Golden Arena for the Best Film.

Here are some titles which are among many films in the competitive programme of the Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region.

Fans of film noir and peculiar films will be drawn by two titles, Swedish – Norwegian Hypnosis, directed by Ernst de Geer and Dutch – Belgian Three Days of Fish directed by Peter Hoogendoorn.

For the first time, the competitive programme of the Zagreb Film Festival includes an animated film, the praised Flow by Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis. It was screened at the opening of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, won the award of the jury and audience and the award for distribution of the Gan Foundation at Annecy, and the screening in Zagreb will be its Croatian premiere.

A praised debut of the Dutch filmmaker Stefanie Kolk, Milk, whose premiere took place in Venice (Giornate degli Autori) also stands out in the programme.

The opening ceremony of the Zagreb Film Festival will take place at the Student Centre Cinema, and the screenings will be held at the CineStar Branimir, the Kinoteka Cinema, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Dokukino KIC and online at croatian.film. The new festival location is the theatre Vidra in Zagreb, which is turning into an official mingling spot. Every year it attracts a number of filmmakers, those who want to become one and those who simply love films.
