A winter program of culture and entertainment

Throughout this December and January of the New Year, Kvaternik Square, one of the city’s busiest squares, will feature daily entertainment programs laden with song, tradition, tasty local specialties, and other winter and festive customs. The head organizers of the program are members of Zagreb’s Cultural Activities Centre, whose goal is to once again turn the newly renovated, popular city square into the centre of gathering for Zagreb’s citizens as well as their guests. To that purpose, a large heated tent was erected at the square, where daily entertainment programs will take place, and there are also numerous wooden stands where many arts and crafts groups nationwide will present their products, customs, and crafts. The entertainment programs, which will begin every day at noon, are intended for all generations and their contents will change daily. Apart from that, there will also be special programs tied to the important upcoming dates: the celebration of St. Nicholas, St. Lucia, the Advent, Christmas Eve, New Year and, finally, the Alpine Ski World Cup slalom races for men and women, which will be held in Zagreb in mid-January.
The Kvaternik Square will also feature presentations by numerous Zagreb associations, cultural and art societies, students, and many others. The rich tradition of the Osijek-Baranja County will be the focus of promotion, and the square will also feature a “Slavonian House” in which the table culture, folk customs, and traditional crafts of Slavonia and Baranja will be presented. Visitors will have an opportunity to taste famous Slavonian specialties such as the indigenous meat delicacies: kulen, ham, sausages, pork scratchings; as well as fine Slavonian wines. Guests can also participate in the preparation of fiš-paprikaš (fish stew with paprika spice) on Christmas day.
Children can play on a wooden eco-carousel or participate in a children’s Olympics event. Furthermore, over the holidays, visiting children will receive a large number of presents. This is just a small portion of what awaits visitors at Kvaternik Square in the upcoming season; it is up to you to join these festive events.
