Magic of Porcelain

The Marton Museum in Samobor will display more than 500 pieces from its collection at the great exhibition “Magic of Porcelain” in the Sevres National Ceramics Museum in Paris. The exhibit will be open from March 3rd to May 25th. Visitors at the Paris museum will be able to view a representative collection of rare pieces of high quality European porcelain.

The museum in Samobor is privately owned by Veljko Marton. After last year's successful exhibit in London he has now been invited by the Sevres National Ceramics Museum in Paris. The number of displays at the Paris exhibition will be even greater than at the one in London. The public will be able to see true masterpieces from the Marton Museum's collection. Among the most valuable are the famous Sevres porcelain pieces, such as 19th century flower bowl. Even though the exact owner is not known, it is believed to have been commissioned for King Louis XV, who used to lavish the finest porcelain on his mistress, Madame de Pompadour. A photograph of the bowl appeared on the cover of a French publication as a masterpiece of French 19th century art.

The Marton Museum holdings also include collections of Russian porcelain, once owned by the famous Ermitraz. Upon Stalin's orders, during a crisis the porcelain was sold through the embassies in Berlin and London, which shows that the collection is extremely valuable.

The exhibit “Magic of Porcelain” is organized under the auspices of the French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić. After the exhibition of the Marton Museum in Paris, the Sevres National Ceramics Museum will be a guest at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb.
