Original Souvenirs with Stories

Bakina Kuća was awarded first place at Arca, the 1st souvenir fair, by the Croatian Association of Innovators. This took place in Boćarski Dom Zrinjevac at the end of last year. A total of 100 exhibitors from around Croatia took part in the fierce competition which included 500 original souvenirs. Bakina Kuća took first place for the best souvenir with two souvenirs, “Argonauts” and “Croatian Navy”.

The souvenir “Argonauts” was inspired by the epic story of Apollonian of Rhodes from 270 B.C., as well as the story of Jason's ship and his crew on a journey between Istria and Korčula. This is captured in a gift box that contains brandy and fig cookies.
The gift box “Croatian Navy” contains fig cookies in eight different flavors, depending on the region the individual ship comes from. The fishermen’s cargo ship from the island of Brač – also known as bracera is represented by the flavors of pine nut and prosecco; the island of Hvar is represented by the flavors of clove, nutmeg and orange peel; while cinnamon and the rose liqueur once prepared by the grand ladies of Dubrovnik are associated with the arrival of a galijun – the ship of the Dubrovnik Republic.

The Croatian Association of Innovators has recognized the creativity of the souvenirs, which have combined a story about cultural heritage with the gastronomic traditions of fig cookies, gingerbread cookies and a delicacy typical of the island of Vis, hib, made with grated, dried figs mixed with herbs.

Located in the vicinity of Zrinjevac, one of Zagreb's most beautiful gardens, Bakina Kuća offers about 10,000 different Croatian products and souvenirs, all in ecological packaging. Here you can find handmade and naturally prepared savory and sweet delicacies. There are also products made from medicinal plants, essential oils, alcoholic beverages and cosmetic products. They are all packaged in gift boxes which make them perfect gifts for friends and business partners, domestic and foreign.
