Pop Up Drama Zagreb: an Unexpected Experience of Theatre
You do not always have to go to the theatre to watch a play. The Pop Up Drama art project brings a play straight to you in Zagreb.
Pop Up Drama is an art project and an urban intervention which will turn Zagreb’s Lower Town sites into a stage from 10 to 15 September so that visitors can have a unique experience of theatre.
Attractive theatre sets, made of recycled material and discarded items, will be put up at some locations downtown, creating a venue for short theatre plays but also a photo booth.
The temporary theatre decoration will show scenes from canonical works of Croatian drama literature that are related to Zagreb. After each show the sets will remain on site for another 48 hours.
In September visitors will have a chance to see a pop-up theatrical staging of Messrs. Glembay by Miroslav Krleža and The Case of Senior Wagner by Marijan Matković as well as a staging of the children’s novel most typical of Zagreb A Whistle from Bukovac by Zvonimir Milčec.
This attractive cultural and tourism project, which is realised in cooperation with the Zagreb Tourist Board, will be interesting both to visitors from Croatia and abroad. They will learn more about Croatian culture in an innovative way, get a chance to create their own play, take a photo at attractive locations and send proof about it via social media.
