Zagreb Film Festival: Films of Established Authors and Debutants
In November the 17th Zagreb Film Festival will make Zagreb a centre of film industry, offering excellent films of established authors to the audience, and giving a chance to debutants to take an important step in defining their place in the film industry.
The 17th Zagreb Film Festival, which will take place from 7 to 17 November, is one of major and the largest international festivals in Croatia and one of the most significant in the region.
Spectators of all ages and interests will again this year get a chance to watch a varied film and educational program. The festival also has a competitive program in which debutant works of new authors will be shown and they will compete for the Golden Pram Award. The first films of now famous directors such as Steve McQueen, Radu Jude, Xavier Dolan, Andrej Zvjagincev, Sofia Coppola and many others were shown as a part of this program.
In order to stimulate the development of the Croatian cinematography, new short Croatian films will be shown as a part of the Checker’s program. It presented numerous authors who were later recognised on the international festival scene such as Hana Jušić, Barbara Vekarić, Sonja Tarokić, Tin Žanić and others.
In addition to the main competitive program the audience will be able to see a series of side film programs such as the Great 5, PLUS, LUX Film Days, and Festivals in the Spotlight. A special program entitled Industry is dedicated to educational and practical content. Within its framework, a string of workshops, lectures, panels and other activities will be held, intended for film professionals, young filmmakers and all those who are interested in various aspects of film production.
The program of the festival is screened at a number of downtown locations, such as the Tuškanac cinema, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Cultural information centre and other venues.
