The great Latino-jazz stars, the Tito Puente Orchestra and the undisputed jazz diva, Yolanda Duke, will perform on December 10th at the popular club, Tvornica Kulture (Culture Factory). The concert will begin at 9 p.m. and, judging by past experience, the audience will have an opportunity to enjoy an exquisite two-hour musical performance featuring exciting dance rhythms of jazz, Bossanova, Soul, Salsa etc. As always, the performance will predominantly feature the touching sound of Yolanda Duke’s unforgettable voice, which has been fronting the world-famous orchestra for many years.
The career of New-Yorker Yolanda Duke can, in many ways, be seen as any singer’s dream-come-true. After a victory at a local singing contest, she was launched into stardom. For a long time, she was the main star of the prestigious nightclub, La Fuente, within the Jaraqua Hotel in the Caribbean. It was here that she first met the mega-popular, now deceased, musician, Tito Puente, who offered her the leading vocal position in his orchestra. At the time, between 1994 and 1997, she had the honour to perform with the leading jazz and soul greats such as Ray Charles, BB King, Arthur Sandoval, and many others.
Despite her immense loyalty to the Tito Puente Orchestra, Yolanda Duke has concurrently nurtured a solo career in music, which she has continued after his death in 2000.
During his long career, Tito Puente, born Ernesto Antonio Puente Jr., recorded over a hundred albums, released more than 400 compositions, won a total of five Grammy’s, and became very respected on the international scene thanks to his contributions to Latino music. Although he primarily cherished jazz and salsa, he achieved greatest successes with his interpretation of mambo music, which earned him the title of the undisputed mambo king and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
