Zagreb Summer Evenings

The sounds of classical, traditional and jazz music will again resound across different venues during this year's Zagreb Summer Evening’s Festival. Opera enthusiasts are in for a veritable treat with the performance of Don Pasquale, a comic opera in three acts, on St. Mark's Square in the Upper Town.

The most attractive venues in the Upper Town, including St. Mark's Square, the Atrium of the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery and the Culture Factory, will serve as stages for this year's events of the Zagreb Summer Evening’s music festival scheduled to take place in July. Apart from the most prominent names from the world of classical, traditional and jazz music, the program of this year's festival also features Donizetti's comic opera in three acts, Don Pasquale. On 7 July, in St. Mark's Square, Alfred Barchi will conduct soloists and the opera ensemble from Friuli Venezia Guilia performing this musical treat, one of the many treats that audiences can look forward to during this year’s festival. Most of the concerts shall take place in the Atrium of the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery, where numerous musicians will also perform traditional songs from particular regions, ranging from Scottish tunes to the traditional songs of southern Italy, Spain, and so on. On 22 July, center stage will be given to the Zagreb Youth Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble established in 1957 on the initiative of students at the Zagreb Academy of Music. The orchestra’s first art director was a Croatian composer, Rudolf Matz, an excellent pedagogue and conductor. The orchestra continues to foster the tradition of music pedagogy and spread Zagreb’s reputation as they perform around the world, under the musical guidance of conductor Zlatan Srzić, the head conductor of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. The members of the orchestra are the best young string musicians, students of musical high schools and the Zagreb Academy of Music. The appearance of the young and talented artists is only one of the many festival events which will also include evenings of blues and rock classics.

The Zagreb Summer Evenings have been taking place since 1982.
