The best skiers once again in Zagreb

January in Zagreb is traditionally reserved for the world’s best skiers and Sljeme, the highest peak of the popular Zagreb mountain, will feature a women’s slalom race on January 3rd while the men will compete on the 6th of January. The women’s race will take place in the morning, while the men will compete in the attractive night slalom.
The female race, the VIP Snow Queen Trophy, which has been taking place in Zagreb as part of the Alpine Ski World Cup since 2005 (the men’s race since 2007), will once again feature the best slalom skiers in the world. The numerous Zagreb audiences have already proven to be a worthwhile driving force for this competition as countless spectators regularly follow the attractive ski events at Sljeme.

Although the story about the Ski Cup in Zagreb began with the best Croatian skier, Zagreb-born Janica Kostelić, who has since retired, the skiers still love Zagreb and the spectators love the skiers in return.  The competitors have recognized this and often deem races at Zagreb’s Sljeme to be among their favourites, mostly thanks to the supportive audience and great organization. However, Zagreb is not only the skiers’ favourite location, but also the numerous TV viewers’ as last year’s slalom races in Zagreb were among the most watched races of the entire Ski World Cup, which includes races in all significant skiing countries across the globe.

The organizers of the event and all concurrent happenings guarantee an interesting competition this year. Like the previous years, the central Zagreb square will feature the starting numbers draw, along with a concurrent entertainment program.
More than twelve thousand spectators are expected at Sljeme this year, where they will, once again, loudly support the competing skiers.
