Time for Jazz

The 19th International Days of Jazz will be organized between the 20th and the 23rd of October at the Small Hall of the Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall. The organizers, the Jazz Club Zagreb, the Croatian Association of Composers, and the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, have again teamed up to give the audiences a fantastic jazz spectacle. Like in the previous years, the festival’s concept revolves around the presentation of Croatian jazz and the recent European jazz scene. Young and promising musicians will perform alongside prominent jazz stars from around the world. The Days of Jazz festival has always been an opportunity to mark an important anniversary. This year’s event is dedicated to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Zagreb Jazz Quartet. The founder of the Zagreb Jazz Quartet is the famous jazz player from Zagreb, Boško Petrović. The members of the quartet have changed many times over the course of the band’s career. Today, it consists of the founder himself, on vibraphone, Mario Mavrin on bass, Silvije Glojnarić on drums and Ladislav Fidri on trumpet. During their performances they are often joined by other jazz musicians, therefore their onetime member, Davor Kajfeš, will also join them on keyboard at this year’s Days of Jazz.

Homegrown talent will be joined by the American James Carter Quintet, consisting of saxophonist James Carter, trumpeter Corey Wilkes, keyboardist Gerard Gibbs, bassist Ralphe Armstrong and percussionist Leonard King.
A trio from Jamaica, consisting of Monty Alexander on piano, Hassan Shakur on double bass, and Georges Fludas on drums, promise an unforgettable concert. The grand finale of the festival will be a performance by the Juvavum Brass ensemble from Salzburg, featuring the Australian singer James Morrison singing backup vocals.
